Studio Assistant


 

We are offering several exciting opportunities to join our studio and workshop team in the Technical Support Department at GSA (Glasgow School of Art).

The Glasgow School of Art is a leader in studio-based education. The studio creates the environment for collaboration, within and across disciplines, for critical inquiry, experimentation, and prototyping. In the studio, we collectively generate new ideas and solutions and where innovation thrives.


Our Studio Assistants team provide support and safety supervision to students in the GSA studio and workshop spaces for evenings and weekends.


Acting as a reliable first point of contact for students, you will be approachable, friendly, and supportive. You will be interested in and have some experience of either Design, Fine Art, or Architecture. You will support students with their queries around studio work in a range of settings.


As part of the wider Technical Support team, you will get to know the workshop facilities across GSA and advise students based on your knowledge.


Your day-to-day responsibilities will include housekeeping of studio and workshop spaces, including disposal of specialist waste.


You will be required to have a valid first-aid certificate and act as the building fire marshal (training will be provided).


The contracts currently available are as follows:


  • Working Pattern: Monday – Thursday evening (21 hours) – 3 x Roles Available.
  • Friday evening and Saturday daytime (12.25 hours) – 5 x Roles Available.

These roles are fixed term for 36 months (until September 2026).


In your application, please outline which shift pattern you are interested in and your areas of interest (Design, Fine Art or Architecture) along with any previous technical or safety experience.
